My Big News

Crazy, isn't it?  The funny thing is, I had no clue that my Big Red doll was in this magazine until I happened upon a picture of it in someone else's Flickr.  I found it just two days ago, and then I immediately drove over to Barnes and Noble and bought the magazine.  I smiled extra big at the sales clerk hoping that instead of asking me if I was interested in a Barnes and Noble Member Card he would randomly ask me why I was buying the magazine so that I could blurt out "BECAUSE MY PILLOW MONSTER IS IN THERE!"  Then, we would hug and hidden balloons would fall down from the ceiling and people would gather around for my autograph.  None of that happened, but if I would have purchased a Barnes and Noble Member card I would have saved 15%!

I'm really excited though.  Intro to Fiber Arts was my all time favorite class at art school.  I took it my senior year and I loved it so much that I considered committing myself to the poor house for life just so I could double major in it and stay in school for another few years.  We dyed things, tore things, sewed things, stuffed things, batiked things, embroidered things.  It was amazing.  My professor would start each class with a tutorial and each one pushed some big boulder in my brain over to reveal worlds of possibility.  In the studio were these enormous, magical wooden looms that very lucky students (who discovered Fiber Arts earlier on in their college careers) got to weave on.  I discovered a couple years ago that my silly college dropped their Fibers program and now there are computers where the looms used to be.  Sad.  However, it makes it extra special to me that my pillow monster ended up on a page in Fiber Arts magazine, my heart has been glowing strong ever since.

how very cool! You should give yourself a big tap in the shoulder, you've done well.

by the way, Frank's picture has been making the rounds here at work... if envy gave people read spots I would be a red polka dot girl!

Again, great job and what a super surprise (although I'm not surprised at all, it was a matter of time before your plushies got discovered)

it just seems wrong to have your work featured without informing you somehow, doesn't it? I'm so glad you stumbled on it. and congratulations!
