Mimi Kirchner's Tattooed Man

brown swirl beard, originally uploaded by Mimi K.

This is one of Mimi Kirchner's tattooed men. Look at his beard! I saw these awhile ago on Craftzine's blog before I started sewing my own creatures. Then, magically I stumbled upon her Etsy store, and I was like a kid in a room full of puppies. If you go to her blog you will see these other gentlemen in progress. She looks at male models in magazines as a reference for their embroidered faces. They look so very cooly unconcerned with anything except their handsomeness, and looking at them makes me smile. I was so delighted by them that I actually had trouble sleeping.

Anyway, I came across some tattoo fabric at this store, and I immediately wanted to make a Billy Bob-esque tattooed guy. I asked Mimi if this would bother her, and she was so kind and supportive and said that it would be okay. Thanks Mimi!

So, Blue Jay Jorge and Carlos were born

Carlos (blue, red, yellow mask) is very good at wrestling.  He had lots of practice because he grew up in a family full of rowdy boys.  However, his one very sensitive older sister, Cecilia, taught him manners and compassion.  This is why after all of his fights, Carlos sends his defeated opponents a fruit basket.

Jorge is a brilliant luchador.  He was defeated only once, by a wrestler named Carlos, who later sent him a fruit basket.  Jorge's favorite fruit is banana.  He shares his bananas with his pet parrot, Sally, who he has trained to say, "Why Jorge!  You are ever so handsome," because Jorge needs the esteem boost sometimes.

Fantastic! And wow, you are so speedy! When I start on an idea, there is usually months of fermenting before the doll gets born...

They remind me of the wrestling brothers from the last season of Angel!

Hey, THANKS everyone! Mary, I haven't seen Angel, maybe that will be my next series rental (currently I am on ALIAS).

Erin, I am glad the button nipples crack you up!

Fight, I know---Mimi is great.

Crystal, I miss you

Stacy, thanks!

Mimi, your work reflects months of fermentation, for sure!

Hey- Thanks for the comment! I haven't done any craft fairs or anything- but I am planning on going to the Luna Festival on Saturday and checking out that art fair. I joined the IN Crowd team on etsy and some of the members are going to have booths so I wanted to go meet them. You should come! I do like the idea of taking Bloomington by storm!
