Albert and his new friends
With a home-based mural business that is not quite taking off and an adorable dog that is hard to say goodbye to, I have decided to challenge myself to making a Pillow Monster a Day for 30 days. I plan on selling these Pillow Monsters at the Bloomington Arts Festival in a few months. I don't know if there will be any grand revelations from this experiment, but I think it will be enjoyable. I am using scrap fabric from the extreme discount bin at Joanna Fabrics, buttons, polyester filling, my sewing machine and hands. Follow Albert and me on my Pillow Monster journey! The challenge begins January 22, 2008 (tomorrow).

Oh Nichol! I so well understand what you have been going through in the last month; I know what is like when you feel like you can't come out of those dark places. We think that this will never go away for fortunately we are wrong. We are humans and that makes us vulnerable but at the same time we are creative and that makes the whole difference in our lives. I went through an important loss once too (a tiny baby) and it took me two months to explain to myself something that I thought it was so unfair. I wrote a letter as if it was that tiny baby telling myself all the things that I needed to hear. I needed to hear that when people are alive, even for a few days that's a gift and I was given that gift and even when it went away I still had the strong presence with me.
The presence of those that you love stays with us even when we can't touch them anymore. Little by little you learn how to let them into your life in a totally different way though your memories and thorough your own body.
Right now while you read this your parents are with you and they will always be. This project with the pillows is something wonderful that you're doing, they are proud of you for keeping your creativity alive, they created you and you are creating new things with your hands so you are keeping the creative cycle that we are all part of. Don't ever feel alone because you are not, you are part of something much bigger than your own body and you will experience this through human connection. I want to thank you so much for your beautiful comment in my blog and I want to say that I am very proud of you for starting your own blog.
Big hug from Elsita and don't forget to smile!!!!!!
